Burgundian Perfection, Not Pretension

For us, it's all about the wines, not the stuffiness. At Scott Paul, our mission is to hand craft small lots of exquisite Pinot Noir. To us that means wines that are focused on elegance and finesse, the benchmarks of what we consider to be the very heart and soul of Pinot Noir. Our fruit is sourced from some of the finest vineyards in the Willamette Valley.

Philosophy

Knowing that Mother Nature gives us a new set of challenges each year, weโ€™re always open to adjusting our winemaking technique to ensure that we have the purest expression from the vineyard and accurately portray the vintage in our wine. Each vintage is different. The same winemaking recipe doesnโ€™t work for every single year or fruit source.

Winemaker

Jamie Brown seamlessly merges his passion for music and winemaking into a harmonious craft. Inspired by his early career in Seattleโ€™s dynamic music scene, Jamie compares winemaking to songwriting โ€” allowing natureโ€™s rhythm to shape each creation. Returning to the Walla Walla Valley, he refined his skills under esteemed mentors like Rusty Figgins, Eric Dunham, and Jean Franรงois Pellet before bringing his expertise to Scott Paul.

History

Scott Paul Wines began in 2004 as a passion project founded by Scott Paul Wright, former managing director of Domaine Drouhin. Over the years, we became a cherished part of the Willamette Valley community. Though they closed their doors in 2019, Scott Paul has now been reborn under the guidance of winemaker Jamie Brown, carrying forward our legacy of elegance and refinement.

Burgundian Wines born in the Willamette Valley

The Valley is nestled between the Oregon Coast Range in the West and the Cascades in the East. Its northern latitude โ€“ combined with its warm summer days, Indian Summers, and cool fall nights โ€“ lends a vibrant acidity and inherent freshness to the regionโ€™s wines. Oregon's Willamette Valley stretches from Eugene in the South to the border of Washington State in the north.

At Scott Paul Wines, we work with distinct vineyard sites within the Willamette Valley. It is our job, as stewards of the land and pursers of our craft, to ensure that the distinct nature of each vineyard imparts its own unique stamp on our wines.

We believe that the path to pure and unadulterated Willamette Valley fruit comes from thoughtful, purposeful and sustainable practices in the vineyard. Throughout the growing year, we work to encourage microflora around the vine and build abundant soil microbe populations throughout the vineyard.

In accordance with organic and biodynamic practices, we do not use pesticides or herbicides at our sites, in order to encourage a healthy microfauna in the vines and on the resulting fruit, allowing for more expressive wines.

Rockstar Winemaker Jamie Brown

Jamie Brown brings a rare blend of instinct, artistry, and experience to his role as Scott Paul's winemaker. Raised in Walla Walla, Jamie first pursued music in Seattle during the height of the grunge era, where he ran a successful music store before wine became his next calling. He often draws parallels between the two crafts: just as a songwriter follows the natural direction of a melody, a winemaker must understand and shape what nature provides without forcing it. That intuitive approach has become a defining hallmark of his style.

Drawn back to the Walla Walla Valley by a passion for wine, Jamie trained alongside respected figures including Rusty Figgins, Eric Dunham, and Jean Franรงois Pellet before earning acclaim as winemaker at James Leigh Cellars. He later helped shape the success of Waters Winery and its related projects, including 21 Grams and Wines of Substance, working alongside Master Sommelier Greg Harrington. Deeply committed to vineyard expression, Jamie has overseen estate vineyard development and built a reputation for wines of balance, site transparency, and character โ€” qualities that make him a natural fit for Scott Paul Wines.
